Laptop Checkout Policy

Pleasant Grove City Library offers two laptops for in-house checkout. These computers are checked out for a period of two hours and must be used on the main floor of the library. A borrower agreement must be initialed and signed before use.

Users must be over 18 years old and have a current Pleasant Grove City library card with fines not totaling over $5.00 in order to check out a laptop.  A picture ID is required along with the library card. The picture ID will be held until the laptop is returned.

Laptops available for checkout are for use within the Pleasant Grove City Library.  A laptop is not to be removed from the library's main floor, or used upstairs or downstairs. It is only to be used on the main floor. If the laptop is taken from the library, it will be considered stolen and police will be notified.

Laptops are available for checkout in the library on a first-come, first-served basis for a loan period of two hours. Renewal is permitted for an additional half hour provided another laptop is available.  Laptops will not be checked out when there is less than 1 hour of time before library closes. There is a $50.00 overdue fee for every 15 minutes the laptop is late.

All laptops need to be returned to the Circulation Desk staff no later than 8:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and no later than 5:30 on Friday and Saturday, even if that means that the loan period is less than the standard two hours.  Any laptop not returned by closing time will be considered “lost” and the replacement cost will be assessed.

While the laptop is checked out, the borrower is completely responsible for its safety and use. The borrower is responsible for any damage or loss that results from any accident, misuse, theft or neglect. The laptop must not be left unattended and must be used in a responsible manner. Food or drink must not be used in the immediate vicinity of the laptop. The power cord must not be strung across where people may walk. No one else may use the laptop.

The user is responsible for saving any work he or she wants to preserve on an external source such as a CD Rom or flash drive or send it via an email attachment.

When audio or video files are played, headphones must be used.

When returning the laptop, return it to the Circulation Desk staff powered on. Allow 5 minutes for staff to check equipment while the borrower waits.

Report any loss or damage of laptops immediately to the Circulation Desk.  The borrower will not attempt to troubleshoot problems with the laptop.

The borrower will agree to pay all costs associated with damage to this laptop computer or any associated equipment. He or she must agree to pay replacement costs should the laptop be lost or stolen. The replacement cost for this computer will be no less than $1,500.00.

The borrower will agree to abide by the library's Internet policy rules and understand not all sites are appropriate for a library setting.
